Puppy and kitten kits grow up

Article

Create adult pet kits to educate clients and increase client compliance.

Many practices package educational materials to teach pet owners about their puppies and kittens. But what about those clients who adopt grown pets or visit your practice for the first time with an older pet? They need educating too. So Jean Lorenz, receptionist at The Veterinary Hospital in Eugene, Ore., created an offering to help them. "We've had puppy and kitten kits for a very long time," she says, "but it recently occurred to me that we didn't have anything similar to provide to new clients with adult pets. We now have an Adult Pet Folder that includes many of the things in our puppy and kitten kits but also handouts more specific to older pets, such as the need for adult wellness exams, explanation of adult vaccine protocols, the need for weight control, and why to spay or neuter an adult pet. Clients seem uniformly delighted to receive these."
