Veterinary technician content is sponsored by Elanco for the month of October.

In an interview with dvm360 at the Fetch Coastal conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mark Harris Jr, LVT, BS, shared what National Veterinary Technician Week means to him and how the week can raise awareness for all the work technicians do in the field. He also stated that he believes the future of veterinary technicians looks bright and he is hopeful about the continued progression of the role.

The following is a partial transcript of the video.

Mark Harris, Jr, LVT, BS: Vet tech Week to me is a week where, one, we're recognized [and] gives an idea of what our profession is. It also starts to give an understanding of what we do, how much we give to patients, how much a piece of us leaves with each patient. And vet tech week shines a light on a sector in vet med with techs that [where] they don't always get shown.

The future of vet techs seems bright from everything I've seen here and everyone I've talked to and everyone I've lectured to. I'm hopeful that with advancements in our field and what we're allowed to do and with what responsibilities we get for the future, that we're going to continue to excel and provide great veterinary care in this industry.
