Honoring National Veterinary Technician Week with Vicky Ograin, MBA, RVT, VTS (Nutrition)

In 2 weeks marks the 30th anniversary of National Veterinary Technician Week. From October 15-21, veterinary technicians will be honored and celebrated for their continued contribution to veterinary medicine and the veterinary team. In an interview with dvm360, Vicky Ograin, MBA, RVT, VTS (Nutrition), scientific communication specialist at Hill's Pet Nutrition, explained the history behind National Veterinary Technician Week and what it means to her, personally.

Vicky Ograin, MBA, RVT, VTS (Nutrition): I've been a registered veterinary technician for many, many years. I started in general practice and now I've gotten into industry. It's been a great career. Part of that, in the last 30 years, we've had National Veterinary Technician week. Vet tech week is so important to me, it's the week to celebrate us, all the things that we do for our patients, the care that we give them. But it's also an opportunity for us to reflect and to celebrate, and to make sure we're taking care of ourselves, as well.

National Veterinary Technician week was started in 1993. So 30 years ago, by NAVTA, which is our national organization: the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America. This is an amazing group. It's it's run by technicians, it's for us.
