In this dvm360® interview at the Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Martha Cline, DVM, DACVIM (Nutrition), shared her advice on the best process when presented with patients experiencing chronic diarrhea. She recommended first conducting nutritional and overall assessments of the animal to then determine the appropriate diet recommendations.

Martha Cline, DVM, DACVIM (Nutrition): When I'm approaching a patient with chronic diarrhea, the most important thing is that nutritional assessment first, and that nutritional assessment is going to include a diet history, where I'm going to review the different diets that have already been tried and how those diets are classified. And then also an assessment of the animal themselves. So what kind of diarrhea are they having?
