Matthew Brunke, DVM, DACVSMR, CCRP, CVPP, CVA: I like both land and underwater treadmills, and the actual fun is most of the underwater treadmills will work with just a little bit of water like the dogs are walking through puddles, so they're a little bit more variable. But the cost is a big difference and to be honest, most of us probably have a treadmill sitting in either our practice or our house that's currently holding our dry cleaning. Most dogs that are 60 pounds and under have a normal walking stride on a human treadmill. So if you're just getting started in rehab and you have a treadmill lying around at home, put that to use.
