Connie Fore/Comedy Pet Photo Awards 2017
Open up and say aaaaaaaah
The world's internet memes are built on them. Honestly, we're surprised no one started a contest yet for them.
That's right—it's the inaugural Comedy Pet Photography Awards.
The website comedypetphoto.com is trying to raise awareness for the Animal Welfare Foundation at the same time as it seeks funny photos in five categories: open (for pet picture), junior (for photographers 15 years or younger), ancients (for photographers 70 years and older), "gone to the dogs" (for, yes, dogs) and "pets who look like their owners."
An interesting note in the rules is a sensitivity to the photo subjects:
"[If] we get a sense that any animal has been disturbed, harassed, traumatized, or, of course, hurt or injured in the process of you getting your picture, you will be disqualified and banned for life from entering the competition."
Certain breeds are also excluded from entry photos, according to the organizers, because the British Kennel Club lists them as breeds with "serious cause for concern": Basset, Bloodhound, Chinese crested dog, Chow chow, Clumber spanial, Dachshund, Dogue de Bordeaux, English bulldog, French bulldog, Mastiff, Neapolitan mastiff, Newfoundland, Pekingese, Persian cat, Pug, Shar-pei, Sphynx cat and St. Bernard.
The contest runs through May 31, 2017, and interested folks can submit up to four photos.
