Doctors sometimes forget to mark all of the services they provided on the charge sheets, says Amy Beckman, front office manager at McAfee Animal Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind. To give the staff an incentive to catch these errors, the hospital offers 20 percent of the missed charges to employees who find them. The money the hospital recoups from team members' double-checking definitely covers the 20 percent, Beckman says. "Plus, it's made our doctors a lot more careful."
