After they count the cash register and prepare for the next day's appointments, team members at Cottonwood Animal Hospital
in Ottawa, Kan., count the tails of boarding pets. Then they record the tally by species, which might range from dogs and
cats to horses and cattle, on a white board in the practice's treatment area. This helps prepare the team for an emergency
that requires the practice to evacuate. "This way, we know at a glance how many pets we need to account for," says Joanne
Bowman, RVT.
