Compliance challenge

How compliant are your clients? One reader says not as compliant as you think. Read his letter and take his compliance challenge.

While I appreciate all the articles on client compliance, I've finally reached a bursting point. In what world do practices exist where anything more than 20 percent compliance can be attained? In “When the Client Says, ‘No'”, 69 percent of team members surveyed reported compliance rates to be above 60 percent. Any time I check our compliance, it's a whopping 10 percent. So you may ask, “Where does he get off? Of course our compliance is excellent, more than 50 percent.” My challenge: Pick 10 random-I mean truly random-patients and pull their charts. You say those 10 patients are in compliance? I say your doctor isn't diagnosing enough problems.

Think about it. We average just under four problems per visit. That means we need the client to agree to start fixing more than two of those problems at every visit just to hit a 50 percent compliance rate. I've never been able to walk through the door of a local clinic, grab 10 charts, and see even half the pets in compliance. Maybe I need to hire a consultant or potentially move to Denial where these other mystery, compliant hospitals must be located.
