4 mindsets to success

It's not just what you know or who you know, it's how you think and what you do that determines your success level.

To reach the top of the corporate ladder, or the top of the practice owners’ mind, you need to start from a strong base. Keith Ferrazzi, consultant to the world’s top enterprises, says that base begins with four core frames of mind. Here are Ferrazi’s mental approaches and how you can apply them in a veterinary practice.

Think: Generosity
Build stronger relationships with co-workers and clients by devoting an extra five minutes a day to lend a helping hand—hold a door open, listen to concerns, bring in healthy snacks for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Think: Vulnerability
Show others that you're not perfect—and you know it. Mentor a new employee and help her grow by admitting mistakes you've made and advising her how to avoid or recover from them.

Think: Candor
Hold those difficult conversations and provide honest feedback with team members. Also ask for constructive criticism so you can spot places in which to improve.

Think: Accountability
Arrive on time to work, if not early, and complete all of your duties before heading out the practice door. And, of course, if you say you're going to do something, do it.
